Temple Communication Regarding COVID 19

03/27/2020 Email to Congregation- Weekly Update

Dear Temple Kol Tikvah Congregants,

Shabbat Shalom!

**This is an update to the previously sent email with our programs for the upcoming week listed below.  **

All of us are experiencing events that are unprecedented for our, community, state, and nation. Life is changing, and we do not know the scope or the potential long-term impact. The Kol Tikvah community -- professionals, clergy, lay leaders, and congregants -- has come together to rise to this unforeseen challenge. All of us are impacted by “stay at home” policies and the temporary closure of businesses, schools, and other public facilities. While these actions are necessary to reduce exposures, it brings financial uncertainty.  Kol Tikvah is not an exception.
Our senior staff and clergy continue to work diligently on all of our behalf even though salary payments to them have been suspended. We have shifted our programs and services to the virtual world in record time. We continue to strive to prevent this COVID-19 virus from splintering us and know that together we will rise to the occasion.
Glimmers of hope continue to shine forth. Our ECC staff member tested negative for the coronavirus. The bank that holds our mortgage has come back with preliminary approval for a three month moratorium of our mortgage payments. Many of our Parlor Donors have accelerated their 2020-2021 commitments and have fulfilled them, rather than waiting until after July 1st.  Other donors have been contacted and will continue to be urged to donate as we seek new sources of needed revenue. We want to make salary payments to the senior staff and to meet our obligations.
Please join us online for our many programs and services.  For a full listing please go to and click on “Covid-19 Communication and Programming.”  We hope that your families are safe and remain strong. We are socially divided but spiritually united. Stay safe...stay healthy...stay in your homes.

We are currently having difficulty funding our financial commitments. We are looking into a number of resources including loans, but at this moment nothing can happen quickly besides gifts from the community. We are asking every family to consider giving a meaningful contribution at this time.  To make a donation please click here: Give to Kol Tikvah

March 16, 2020 email HEALTH UPDATE- Closing ECC

Dear friends,
You are in our thoughts and our prayers. If you need spiritual assistance, the Kol Tikvah clergy is just a phone call, email, or text away.
In these trying times, transparency is of the utmost importance. Late this afternoon we learned that one of our ECC staff members has been diagnosed with pneumonia. Out of an abundance of caution, her physician has tested her for coronavirus, and the results will be available within the next few days. In  response to this development, we have closed our ECC effective 5pm today, March 16th, until further notice.
We are moving rapidly to collect information and will share new facts as they become available.  As this situation unfolds, it is paramount that our community focuses on containing the spread of misinformation. This is a fast-moving and ever-changing challenge, and we will continue to be vigilant and communicative, making decisions based on data and facts with advice from our partners in local health agencies.
If you or anyone in your family has contracted the Coronavirus, please contact Laureen Waterman, Executive Director, via email at
Your support and patience is appreciated as we work diligently and thoughtfully to navigate this challenging time together.
