High Holy Days 5786

Dear Friends,

Each fall as we gather for the High Holy Days, we are reminded of the profound joy and spirit that define our time together at Kol Tikvah. We also bear in mind the somber realities that surround us, realities that remind us of the fragility of life and the strength of our collective spirit.

Our tradition teaches us that true refreshment and sustenance can be found in our spiritual source. Just as a thirsty soul yearns for life-giving water in a parched land, or as the prophet Jeremiah spoke of “fountains of living water,” we are drawn back to the wellspring of our faith and community at Kol Tikvah. This sacred space offers us a place to drink deeply, to renew our spirits, and to find a clear path forward, leading to a renewed sense of belonging and purpose.

We invite you to embrace these High Holy Days fully – participate, involve your loved ones, and share in the collective experience of renewal. Drink deeply from the fountain and your thirst will be quenched.

Your participation will rejuvenate your spirits and fortify your resolve to bring healing and hope to our world. We eagerly anticipate coming together with you in prayer and reflection.

Joining me on the bima this year in order to add to our communal spirituality will be Cantorial Soloist Joel Stein, Rabbinic Fellow Rabbi Rebecca Chess, Rabbinic Intern Paige Beame, Education Intern Mollie Leibowitz, our Kol Tikvah Choir, our Kol Tikvah band Kolplay, and a number of guest speakers and scholars. The variety of sounds and ideas will add to your prayer experience.

I look forward to coming together this High Holy Day season so that we, as a community, can once again feel the loving embrace of Kol Tikvah.

Shanah Tovah.
