Once upon a time, the Israelites stood at the foot of Mount Sinai and God offered them the Torah. Once upon a time, God lifted Mount Sinai over the heads of the Israelites and told them: Torah or Death. Multiple schools of thought exist within midrashic to modern Rabbinic literature concerning the reception and interpretation of the Torah. Exploring these agendas might help us better understand our own connections to Torah. Over three sessions, we will follow rabbinic accounts of the reception of the Torah, the location of the Torah, and the interpretation of the Torah and ask, to whom does the Torah truly belong and what does it mean to me?
