The Woodlands Shelter

Kol Tikvah is a proud sponsor of The Woodlands, a new family shelter located
across the street from Taft High School. The 100 unit shelter provides a safe space for families who have lost their home. The converted hotel rooms not only give each family the physical components of home, but the facility has services 24-hours a day seven days a week to help everyone in the family get back on their feet. Families have access to housing navigation case management, referrals to outside service providers for medical and mental health care, parenting classes, and help finding employment. Most of these families are headed by single mothers, and because 60 percent of these mothers have at one time fallen victim to domestic violence, the staff has special training on caring for these vulnerable families. Starting in 2024, the facility will have an on-site child care center so that single mothers can drop off their children and then head out to job training or a job so that they can move on to permanent housing. Kol Tikvah is proud to provide hope to our neighbors in need.

Help Kol Tikvah sponsor a room at the new family shelter on Ventura. 
Rabbi Jon and the Board of Directors have raised nearly $5,000 to sponsor a room at the shelter in Kol Tikvah's name, and we invite everyone to participate in this mitzvah. These are our neighbors and this facility needs help getting off the ground. We hope you will consider giving $18 to $180. Your tzedakah will boost the Temple’s contribution to Hope the Mission's new shelter high enough that they will place a plaque with the Temple’s name next to one of the rooms in the shelter.
